Eagles Nest Outfitters SingleNest Hammock Review

Throughout the many years that I have spent camping in the great outdoors, I have also spent restless nights trying to get a sound nights sleep.  Tossing and turning, left side, right side, back, then all over again is how the night would precede.  Even with an absolutely incredible sleeping pad, there was room for improvement.

Tired of being tired I started looking for a more suitable options in order to enjoy a full nights rest.  So a year ago I ditched the tent and cold hard ground.  Trading the countless mornings, waking up with a stiff back for a soothing night that was like sleeping on a cloud, after making the best decision by switching to the ENO SingleNest hammock.

Since then I have used the ENO hammock in Yosemite’s majestic backcountry.  With its heart-stirring vistas that appear to be never ending.  I’ve also slept like a king under the desert stars and up on the mountain tops of Mt San Jacinto.  Even lazy Sundays have been spent on Mission Bay, with the hammock strung between two palm trees while the crisp breeze gently brushed over my skin.   As long as there is a way to hang the hammock, bliss is sure to follow.

The ENO SingleNest hammock is constructed of a light weight nylon that is both breathable and quick drying.  So whether you are camping in the scorching heat of the desert or the damp rain forest, the nylon construction will help assist in your effort to stay dry and comfortable.  All the stitching on the SingleNest hammock is triple stitched which makes the hammock extremely durable, with the capability of supporting 400 lbs.  The hammock also comes with two aluminum wire gate carabiners that can be used with the addition of one of ENO’s suspension systems for easy set up and down.  When unfolded the hammock stretches an impressive 9ft 4in x 4ft 7in in order to accommodate the tallest of people.  Best of all, the SingleNest conveniently packs into the attached compression stuff sack for an amazing 3.5 x 4.5 inches and only weighs 16 ounces.

As a part of my shelter system I also pair the SingleNest Hammock with the ENO SlapStrap suspension system and ProFly rain tarp.  The SlapStraps consist of incredibly strong 1 inch tubular nylon webbing that is safely capable of holding 400 pounds.  Each strap is 7ft 4in long with a five loops sewn in for quick, easy adjustments.  Tree lover?  Well no fear, the SlapStraps are safe to use around trees.  The straps also come in there own bag and weighs 12 ounces.

The ProFly rain tarp is great for protection from the rain or sun, as it measures 10ft 6in x 6ft 4in.  The tarp is made of PU coated nylon tafetta ripstop that is tough as nails.  There is also loops at each corner with adjustable nylon guide lines that make securing the ProFly in bellowing winds a cinch.

My experiences with the ENO SingleNest hammock, SlapStraps, and ProFly have been exceptionable.  I have enjoyed the best nights in the most beautiful places that even a five star hotel couldn't offer.  There was however, a few frigid nights with winds that rushed under the hammock, chilling me to the bone.  This was an easy fix by placing my sleeping pad in the hammock under my sleeping bag.  After that, it was a wonderfully toasty evening.

That is why the ENO SingleNest hammock is my go to shelter.  And I will be using the SingleNest for my entire 2650 mile Pacific Crest Trail thru hike, this summer.  Whether it is just for backyard comfort or backcountry adventures, this amazing hammock has something for everyone.  Because lets face it, we could all use a little more beauty rest.
